This feature story for Legacy grew out of my work in interpretive planning in the Lumber Heritage Region of Pennsylvania, the second largest heritage region in the United States. The region evolves through new meaning from when Native Americans passed through and lived here, when pioneers arrived, after it was deforested, when the forests grew back, and now as a conservation success and tourism destination. The interpretive plan that I helped design aims to move this evolution of the meaning along. Check out the story.
