USS Constitution

“Old Ironsides” has participated in over thirty battles in its 200-year history. It earned its name when 18-pound English canon balls bounced off its sides. It had used a type of strong oak only found in the Americas.

The National Park Service manages the Constitution along with the US Navy. They deploy living history interpreters such as this one who demonstrates the use of a musket. He averts his eyes to avoid being blinded by exploding black powder. But the musket isn’t loaded.
