Letter
April 28, 2004
Dear Jonathan and Marisol,
Im writing this letter to tell you how very happy I am that you
have found each other and have decided to spend the rest of your lives
together. At this moment, looking forward with such joy, I look back at
how we got to this point.
It seems like yesterday, Jon, that you were just a one-year-old child
learning how to talk, and your ability to whistle really amazed everyone.
I remember your summers at Stony Brook and Moose Hill Audubon camps,
which you really loved, and your one time at the YMCA camp, which you
really hated.
I remember your playing baseball and soccer during your school years.
I remember your working on the Foxboro High School paper and qualifying
to go to Breadloaf, Vermont to enhance your writing skills.
I remember your part-time jobs while in the Foxboro area-working at Friendlys
and at Normandy Farms Campground. You even worked on some limousine jobs
for Jim.
Then you left Foxboro to go to Dartmouth College and worked summers at
the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Wellfleet Audubon camp.
I remember your working at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC, where I
visited you and you were my personal tour guide for a few days. I also
remember the day we were to leave to come back to Foxboro and our rental
truck was broken into and all your things were stolen. We drove back with
an empty truck. I was more upset about it than you were. Your ability
to keep your cool is amazing!
I remember you then going into the Peace Corps to Costa Rica where I
also visited you and where you met Marisol.
I remember you coming back and attending Yale University where you earned
your Masters Degree, then working for RARE.
All of these accomplishments have made me so proud of you and now, to
be attending your marriage makes me even more proud and happy.
I fell in love with Marisol from the first day I met her. She was so
warm and friendly. I love watching you two together, the way you laugh
and joke with each other. As you said in your matrimonial celebration
invitation, A mediation of opposites, where opposites
converge to become one. You were meant to find each other. Just
remember to never stop listening to one another. I hope you have a very
long, happy and healthy life together.
Love,
Mom
P.S. Please make sure there is room in your future new home in Costa
Rica for us to visit.
